This week we are unzipping the neighborhood of Felida in 98685. This quaint area of Vancouver has distinctive characteristics that help shape its appearance and way of life. Top public schools, low crime rates, and owner-occupied homes have helped make it one of the best neighborhoods for families in the state of Washington. The expansive green parks and playgrounds remind me of the wonderful memories I have of raising my children in the Midwest.
Farrar’s Bistro is the local favorite when it comes to eating out. If you’re looking for signature “comfort food with flair”, you’ve come to the right place. All dishes are made from scratch and source the highest quality ingredients the area has to offer. The bistro goes the extra mile to smoke its own meat and fish and makes all rubs and sauces in-house. Farrar’s Bistro is the place you’ll want to recommend to your family and friends and the kind of spot you’ll frequent when home cooking feels like too much work. If they don’t know your name when you walk in, they will by the time you’ve finished your meal.
Just down the road from Farrar’s Bistro is the new multi-use development of Felida Village. Ron Edwards, president of Western Design Group, purchased in 2007. After experiencing some setbacks due to recession, the development now has tenants such as Barre 3, and construction is set to be completed in early June. Other commercial businesses who are taking up residence in Felida Village include: Edward Jones, Pines Coffee & Tea, and Mt. Tabor Brewing, which will occupy the entire first floor of the corner building.
While in the area, I stopped to meet with Dewey Haney, one of our Senior Mortgage Bankers at Summit Mortgage Corporation. Dewey is a long-time resident of 98685 and very involved in the community of Felida. In addition to his full-time job at Summit Mortgage Corporation, Dewey gives back by working as vice president (and recently president-elect) of the Community Housing Resource Center in Vancouver.
The CHRC is a vital resource for families of the community. The goal of the CHRC is to help individuals and families establish financial self-sufficiency through free education and counseling services. The CHRC primarily serves low-to-moderate income families of Clark County. They offer quality education and counseling for many financial and housing situations: from first-time home buying, to dealing with a mortgage default or foreclosure.
The CHRC relies on expert volunteer’s like Dewey. Dewey’s passion for helping others is evident when he speaks of the clients he has impacted with the aid of CHRC. Learn more about this wide-reaching, non-profit organization on our next episode of UnZip The Zip-Code on May 6th.
I hope you’re able to head over to 98685 this next week and explore some of the places we’ve highlighted. And, don’t forget to watch the new episode of UnZip The Zip-Code this Friday on AM Northwest at 9am and on MeTV at 6pm. We’ll be discussing current real estate statistics and more of what this community has to offer.
Starting Friday, look for our raffle for a $25.00 gift certificate to the Felida favorite, Farrar’s Bistro! Connect with us on social media and learn how to win even more fun stuff by visiting our Instagram and Facebook pages.
