This week we are in the beautiful suburb of Lake Oswego, covering zip-codes 97034 and 97035. Read on to discover some of our favorite places to stop for a bite to eat, and some fun things to do during the holiday season in the Lake Oswego community.
About Lake Oswego
Located just south of Portland, Lake Oswego is an affluent suburb, which surrounds the 405-acre Oswego Lake. Founded in 1847 and incorporated in 1910, Lake Oswego is one of the oldest inhabited areas in the Willamette Valley and was considered Oregon’s first iron town. Though iron ventures in Lake Oswego ultimately failed, the community quickly grew into a suburban paradise, offering lake view property with resort-like amenities in the surrounding areas. Lake Oswego’s motto of “Live Where You Play” reflects the multitude of opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Lake Grove Zupan’s Market
Our first stop was to the locally owned and operated, Lake Grove Zupan’s Market. This branch of Zupan’s Market has the unique feature of a beautiful breezeway, with seating and heat lamps, where patrons can stop and enjoy their coffee or dine alfresco. The breezeway provides opportunity for fun community traditions during the warmer months. Next spring and summer, look for the Big Dinners in the Breezeway series, featuring all-inclusive four-course dinners with wine pairings.
Kelly’s Jelly
Haven’t been to the Lake Oswego Farmer’s Market? Make sure to mark your calendars for next May and pay them a visit! Our guest on Friday’s episode, Kelly Calabria, got her start selling small batches of handcrafted pepper jelly at this vibrant local market in 2010.
Fast-forward to present day and it’s not hard to see that Kelly’s Jelly has become a resounding success. Each jar of small batch jellies and preserves are made with local Northwest produce. Gluten-free and non-GMO verified, Kelly’s delicious creations are “…sweet, with just the right amount of heat.” They’re the perfect addition to any holiday cheese or appetizer plate and make great hostess gifts.
Kelly has moved far beyond the Lake Oswego Farmer’s Market – you can even find Kelly’s Jelly used in Voodoo Donuts and Ruby Jewel ice cream creations! Purchase Kelly’s Jelly online and at grocery stores across the country, including Zupan’s Markets, Fred Meyer and QFC locations.
Be sure to visit her website and check out the Food Pairing Chart to get the most out of these great products.
Oregon Wine Reserve
Our last stop in Lake Oswego lead us to the
Oregon Wine Reserve. The Oregon Wine Reserve is a welcoming, educational, fun environment that provides a great place to enjoy wine with friends and family. Becoming a member at the Oregon Wine Reserve allows you to become part of a larger community of wine connoisseurs in Lake Oswego and the Portland Metro area. The Oregon Wine Reserve provides state-of-the-art storage and an optimal cellaring environment for any size wine collection.
